Causes of rain.
Clouds are made of water droplets. Within a cloud, water droplets condense onto one another, causing the droplets to grow. When these water droplets get too heavy to stay suspended in the cloud, they fall to Earth as rain.
How are clouds formed?
The process is called the water cycle, through which clouds are formed. Water from mountains, hills, residential areas, and other sources, all meet up at one place say, Ocean. due to open areas and excessive sunlight, the temperature of water rises, and due to high-temperature water evaporates and vapors rise in the sky. As they go higher temperature start decreasing and at a point, the temperature becomes enough cold to convert vapors into water droplets these water droplets take the shape of clouds, and when the amount of these droplets becomes so high or the temperature decreases more than a requirement, then these droplets start falling down, in the form of rain.

Why does it rain heavily in Mumbai?
You must have noticed that why it rains so much in Mumbai every year. Or if it rains so much there, then why it rain less in North India. If we look scientifically, there are 3 reasons for this.
Number 1
Monsoon winds. The southwest monsoon winds bring moisture-laden winds to Mumbai from the Arabian Sea. And due to the Western Ghats mountain range, it rises, due to which it condenses and takes the form of rain clouds and, due to the high moisture in it, it becomes the season of heavy rains.
Number 2.
Topography. In the coastal areas of Mumbai, these moist winds are intercepted by the Western Ghats, due to which they rise, and there is a lot of rain in the form of clouds.
Number 3.
In the monsoon season, low-pressure systems, such as depressions, cyclones, and troughs, which usually form over the Arabian Sea, allow you to intensify the monsoon rains in Mumbai. The air in the low-pressure area begins to rise or form clouds as the rain gets too much.

Why does it rain less in the north as compared to Mumbai?
Now let's talk about why it doesn't rain that much in North India, because, there is no coastal area in North India, there is no ghat, and the main reason is from Mumbai to North India. Due to the wind on the side, and due to frequent rains, the moisture content decreases, and due to this, the rains are not as heavy as in Mumbai.
